Prestwould Condominiums

Prestwould

Overlooking Monroe Park, Sacred Heart Cathedral & the historic Mosque Theatre, Prestwould Condominiums have been the premier address in historic Richmond Virginia for over a hundred years.

Designed by British architect and MP Alfred C. Bossom, the thirteen floor Prestwould offers breathtaking views of downtown Richmond. Unfortunately a century of rain and weather have not been kind to the Prestwould, slowly undermining the integrity of the roof, walls and windows to the extent that major work was required to finally stop the damage and prevent further deterioration of this marvelous building.

Sacred Heart Cathedral

Cathedral

After the Civil War, the growing Catholic population needed a new house of worship, so in 1884 planning began on what would become the beautiful Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Completed in 1906, the cathedral is built of Virginia granite and Indiana limestone with a distinctive copper dome and tile roof. After 100 years of corrosion, acid rain and weather damage, the cathedral was in need of a massive restoration. This face-lift has been carefully performed in stages and after years of work is nearing completion. Up-to-date photos of the renovation’s current progress are available on-line.
